LinkedIn was launched in 2003 and since then has accrued over 500 million members, with 250 million of those being active monthly users. The purpose of LinkedIn is to connect professionals from all roles and sectors, allowing them to build and maintain a strong business network, join in business-specific conversations and search for future opportunities.
The platform provides an incredible opportunity to expand and strengthen one’s network that all professionals should actively be taking advantage of.
Through LinkedIn, you can build brand awareness by having a strong presence and actively sharing and commenting on the posts of your connections. This helps you expand your reach to get your name and account noticed by a much wider network. Post useful content and engage in discussions pertinent to your sector to demonstrate your value rather than simply telling people what you do.
Making the most of LinkedIn is not just about having lots of connections. Half of the LinkedIn battle is engaging with those connections and having a consistent and active enough presence to be able to act on opportunities in time when they arise. Be sure to keep an eye on what your connections are posting and if you see an opportunity on offer, grab it with both hands or recommend it to a connection who fits the bill – they are likely to keep their eyes peeled and return the favour.
